Les Atelier de Karine | Scrapbooking: Matching colors and design

I have a new layout in a almost new to me size and featuring Sable D’Or collection by Les Ateliers de Karine. In today’s post, I would like to talk about colors and in particular, how the colors of a photo can inspire a page design.

Ho un nuovo layout in una dimensione quasi nuova per me e realizzato con la collezione Sable D'Or di Les Ateliers de Karine. Nel post di oggi, vorrei parlare dei colori e, in particolare, di come i colori di una foto possono ispirare il design di una pagina.

Speaking about the size of the layout, this a 6 x 12 inch paper, it means half of the classic square scrapbooking format. For some time now, I've been making an album for my son and I have to say that I really like the size. It’s vertical and elongated as the Traveler’s Notebook, that I am very comfortable with  and there’s enough space on it to ‘play’ with stamps and embellishments. 

In addition to the layout size, I would like to emphasize the photo, how the photo inspired the layout for colors and design. 

Parlando del formato di questo layout, si tratta di un foglio 6 x 12 pollici, praticamente la metà del classico formato di scrapbooking quadrato. Da qualche tempo, sto realizzando un album di ricordi per mio figlio e devo dire che mi piace molto. E’ verticale e allungato come il TN, con cui mi trovo molto a mio agio ed è grande a sufficienza per ‘giocarci’ con timbri e abbellimenti.

Oltre alla misura del layout, vorrei porre l’accento sulla foto, su come la foto abbia ispirato il layout per colori e design.

The photo is a gorgeous sunset by the sea. Summer sunsets can have such amazing colors and this is one of the case. The color of the sky in the photo, goes from purple to yellow, with pink and orange in between. I decided that this was a perfect color palette. I only skipped purple because I didn’t find a matching purple in my stash.

So, I cut 4 strips of white card-stock and colored them with distress oxides. Then, to counteract the verticality of the page, I glued them horizontally onto the sheet, adding a decorative stitching in the center.

The photo also shows the top of some palm trees. I wanted to reproduce the leaves on my page, too, by adding some colored stamped leaves under the photo.

La foto è uno splendido tramonto in riva al mare. I tramonti estivi possono avere colori così incredibili e questo è uno dei casi. Il colore del cielo nella foto, va dal viola al giallo, con il rosa e l'arancione nel mezzo. Ho deciso che questa era una tavolozza di colori perfetta. Ho saltato il viola solo perché non ho trovato tra le mie cose, un viola che stesse bene.

Così, ho tagliato 4 strisce di cartoncino bianco e le ho colorate con distress oxides. Poi, per contrastare la verticalità della pagina, le ho incollate in orizzontale sul foglio, aggiungendo una cucitura decorativa al centro di ciascuna.

La foto raffigura anche la sommità di alcune palme, così ho voluto riprodurre anche le foglie nella mia pagina, aggiungendo alcune timbrate colorate sotto la foto.

There’s not always need to overcharge the page of embellishemts to make a beautiful layout. Matching photo and layout design + colors, it’s enough to have a pretty and harmonious page as final result.
